Personalized rewards bonuses
The BBVA Visa Professional Rewards credit card offers one of the most flexible rewards programs on the market. That makes it an ideal choice for cardholders who want to tailor their rewards spending to everyday purchases. The BBVA Visa card starts out by offering two points for every dollar spent on recurring expenses, such as gas, office supplies, phone bills and insurance. It also offers one point for every dollar spent on most everything else. it lets cardholders choose a spending category in which they’ll earn three points for every dollar they spend, and a category in which they’ll earn two points for every dollar spent. Bonus category choices include groceries, travel, utilities and health care.

Flexible redemption
BBVA doesn’t limit the total number of points you can earn. So if your office spends heavily on routine expenses – such as utilities, health care, office supplies or gas – you can take home a substantial amount. We estimate that cardholders who spend at least $4,000 a month take home roughly $595 in rewards by the end of the year. The BBVA Visa card doesn’t offer a sign-up bonus, though, so it can be a while before you earn enough points to redeem them. However, BBVA makes the process of redeeming points relatively easy. You can redeem points for travel or for partial travel, cash, account credits, gift cards, or merchandise. Just be sure you redeem your points before they expire. BBVA only gives cardholders 48 months to redeem rewards.

Excellent benefits
In addition to a top-notch rewards rate, the BBVA Visa Professional Rewards card also offers a solid suite of business-friendly benefits, including individual employee cards with customizable credit limits, itemized statements, online tools for tracking employee spending, discounts on QuickBooks and a liability waiver for unauthorized employee charges. The BBVA Visa card also offers standard credit card perks, such as purchase protection, travel and emergency assistance, and car rental insurance.

Low interest rate – for some
In addition, the BBVA card offers a low APR for cardholders with excellent credit. Cardholders with the best credit scores are charged a minimum of just 9.49 percent, which is well below average for a business card. By contrast, the average business card charges a minimum APR of 13.11 percent. The card’s maximum APR is well above average for a business card, though, making it a much riskier choice for cardholders with lower credit scores. Depending on your credit score, you can be charged an APR as high as 23.49 percent.

Reasons to get it:

  • You spend heavily on routine purchases, such as gas, groceries, utilities, office supplies or insurance.
  • You want generous rewards you can customize.
  • You want a rewards card with a relatively low interest rate and have a high enough credit score to qualify for one of the card’s lower rates.
  • You already have an account with BBVA and want a card with the same bank.

How to use it:

  • To maximize your spending, use the card for all routine bills and expenses.
  • Before settling on a bonus category, carefully consider your spending and choose the category that you typically spend the most on.
  • Pay attention to the enrollment periods. You’ll need to manually opt in to take advantage of the card’s bonuses.
  • Use your card for any travel purchases in order to receive the travel benefits.
