Drury Gold Key Club Credit Card Review

15,000-point sign-up bonus

You receive 15,000 bonus points simply for signing up and making a purchase with the card within the first 90 days. It’s not a spectacular bonus, but you can get up to two free hotel nights out of it. Since the card carries no annual fee, there’s not much risk in signing up for a complimentary hotel stay.

Low earning scheme

You get five points per dollar on your stay at Drury properties – 15 points total once you factor in Gold Key Club base points – and 1 mile per dollar for spending on everything else. That’s not a bad rate if you often stay at Drury Hotels, although the low rewards rate on miscellaneous expenses is disappointing. If you are not a frequent guest of Drury Hotels, you will have a difficult time building up significant rewards points, and will probably be better served by a general rewards card, or even another hotel card. Some hotel credit cards offer a high return on general spending, as well as good options for transferring points for airline miles.

Limited redemption options

The redemption options with this card are very limited. While the card does include options for gift cards and cruises, you have a limited selection from which to choose. You can also exchange your points for miles on American Airlines and United Airlines, but the exchange rate is low. You are mostly limited to redeeming your points for stays at Drury Hotels within a limited geographic range of 21 states. If you plan to travel elsewhere or wish to use another hotel chain, you will have a hard time redeeming points.

On the plus side, redemption starts at just 7,500 points per night. But most hotels, especially in more popular locations, are priced at 15,000-50,000 points.

A better–than-average hotel with good VIP benefits

Drury Hotels is a pet-friendly, limited-service hotel chain that offers a lot of perks to all guests, such as free hot breakfast, free soft drinks, free late afternoon snacks and beverages, and free Internet.

The Drury Gold Key Club credit card entitles you to some great VIP benefits, such as access to the best room available within your booking category, early check-in and late check-out, and free room upgrades.

Reasons to get it:

  • You frequently stay at Drury Hotels.
  • You frequently travel in or to the geographical area served by the chain.

How to use it:

  • Make sure to make a purchase within the first 90 days in order to get the bonus.
  • Use the card for all of Drury purchases, but use other higher-earning rewards cards for all other purchases.
  • Do not use the card abroad if you do not want to incur the 3 percent foreign-transaction fee.
